Ludum Dare 31 Jam: Santa's Seasonal Slayfest

Joined by good friend Carl, Gredgie and I continued our Ludum Dare 72-hour jam participation with an extra brain and a spring in our step.

The theme for LD31 was "Entire Game on One Screen", and again we had been overconfident that the seemingly-popular ASCII Snowman theme was going to be chosen and the side-scrolling wintery beat-em-up we had planned to make was going to be in the bag.

Unfortunately, Snowman wasn't picked so we instead made a beat-em-up that fit all on one screen!

You play as a child (or children with a second player) forced to take part in a gladiatorial Christmas massacre incited by those evil elves. With a variety of weapons at your disposal, you must survive as man rounds as you can while the bodies pile up.

Carl made a trailer:

We didn't place too well this time (in fact, at 219th overall it is our worst-placed LD game yet), but as usual it was a thoroughly enjoyable weekend and having an extra team member really took some of the pressure off, especially in the final few hours.

We'll be back in 2015, hopefully for all three Ludum Dare competitions!
